Fighting rages at the airport near the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk as Kiev refutes claims that rebels had taken the strategic site. For residents it means a life of fear and uncertainty. (SOUNDBITE) (Russian) DONETSK RESIDENT, ALEXANDER, SAYING: "It's constant, constant. I already can't make out who is shooting, where the shots come from. You sit, everything rattles, you think 'will the house collapse, or will it not collapse, will they hit or will they miss?'." Life does go one. For children, there is still the joy of winter. But for many there is no escape from the threat. (SOUNDBITE) (Russian) DONETSK RESIDENT, LENA, SAYING: "You are more worried that, God forbid, it will come flying in when you are at home, this shell, what will happen? It is horrifying. I wish it would end soon." Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in Kiev vows that troops will answer any attempts by rebels to seize the airport during the shaky ceasefire agreed to in September. (SOUNDBITE) (Ukrainian) UKRAINIAN PRESIDENT, PETRO POROSHENKO, SAYING: "The one who will try to break the truce cynically and boldly will pay for this with his life as it happened yesterday, as it will be in future." Kiev officials say six Ukrainian soldiers were killed overnight and 18 wounded in attacks by separatists. A seventh soldier was killed on Friday.
