U.S. President Barack Obama arrived in India into the welcoming arms of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday. Obama inspected the guard of honour during a ceremony at the presidential palace. He then laid a wreath at the Mahatma Ghandi memorial. Obama accepted Modi's personal invitation to attend the country's Republic Day parade on Monday- the first U.S. president to ever do so. His presence at the event is the latest revival of a roller-coaster relationship between the two largest democracies that just a year ago was in tatters. The two sides have worked to reach agreements on climate change, taxation and defence cooperation in time for the visit. The White House said Obama will forego a planned trip to the Taj Mahal and instead travel to Saudi Arabia follwing the death of King Abdullah.
