The Obamas were received by Indian President Pranab Mukherjee. "I want to extend our deepest thanks for the extraordinary hospitality that you have shown us here today. We feel your friendship, 'dosti', and I am deeply honoured to be the first American president to join you in celebrating India's Republic Day," Obama said. On Monday (January 26), Obama will be the first U.S. president to attend India's Republic Day parade, an annual show of military might long associated with the anti-Americanism of the Cold War. He will also host a radio show with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Obamas landed in India early on Sunday (January 25) for a three-day visit to enhance bilateral ties. Earlier in the day, Modi and Obama announced a breakthrough in a nuclear deal that had remained stagnant for years.
