We very much appreciate the United States' involvement in supporting of the peaceful resolution of the situation in Donbass." Kerry's visit comes amid escalating violence in the east -- in a conflict that has already killed more than 5,000 people. Although there has been talk of the U.S. lending lethal support to Ukraine -- in a joint news conference with Ukraine's Prime Minister Kerry focussed on diplomacy, later saying that U.S. President Barack Obama would make a decision on arms "soon." (SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. SECRETARY OF STATE, JOHN KERRY, SAYING: "The only way that it ends is through diplomacy. We have no illusions there there is, quote, 'a military solution', and contrary to some comments that I've read in the last days coming from some of the folks who have made the choices to fuel this conflict, we are not choosing a military outcome. We are choosing a peaceful solution through diplomacy, but you cannot have a one-sided peace." The visit comes amid an announcement that President Vladimir Putin is ready to hold constructive talks with French President Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Ukraine on Friday. The two were in Kiev on Thursday.
