Drivers in northern Peru caught up in a mudslide run for shelter, after the region was gripped by torrential rain and flooding this week. At least 15 people have died. In addition to the destruction of rural roads and highways, officials say more than 8,000 homes in the Peruvian Amazon have been damaged. Many are no longer inhabitable. (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) LOCAL AFFECTED BY THE FLOODS, OSCAR SIFUENTES, SAYING: "It has been like this for a week now and we are asking for financial help for the neighborhood because we don´t have anywhere to go." Earlier this week, the government declared a state of emergency for at least 60 days... ...as crews try to clean up the mess -- and bring much needed relief to residents. Peruvian President Ollanta Humala is also expected to pay a visit and survey the storm's impact.
