EDITORS PLEASE NOTE: REUTERS IS UNABLE TO INDEPENDENTLY VERIFY THE CONTENT OF THIS VIDEO, WHICH HAS BEEN OBTAINED FROM A SOCIAL MEDIA WEBSITE Syrian government forces attacked a Palestinian refugee camp on the outskirts of the capital Damascus. Video that cannot be independently verified by Reuters shows the launch of surface-to-surface missiles into neighborhoods near what is said to be Yarmouk, a refugee camp, once held by anti-Assad rebel insurgents but now in the grip of Islamic State fighters. Human rights groups say Islamic State now control 90% of the camp - bringing the militant group dangerously close to the capital, the seat of power for President Bashar al-Assad. The hardline Islamist group also launched an attack on the rival rebel insurgents inside the camp - in video showing an empty alley in the camp, a male voice can be heard giving a message from the Islamic State---warning residents of bloodshed if they didn't leave the rebel faction. The United Nations has expressed concern over the protection of Syrian and Palestinian civilians still in the besieged camp- the safety of which, UN workers say, has become a challenge for the international community.
