According to local media reports, at least two of the 27,000 candidates standing for election to local councils do not pledge their loyalty to the Castro regime. Eight million Cubans were expected to cast ballots across the island nation. The president marked his ballot at a school in the Playa municipality, where he spoke with voters and posed for photos with Pioneer students.
