Calm has returned to the Burundian capital Bujumbura with the president's announcement that three generals accused of an attempted coup are under arrest. Authorities say Major General Godefroid Niyombare - seen here on Wednesday - was one of the coup leaders. The attempted overthrow of President Pierre Nkurunziza came after two weeks of violent protests against his bid for a third term in office. Thursday saw heavy fighting and frequent gunfire, but on Friday residents woke up to some semblance of peace. (SOUNDBITE) (Kirundi) BUJUMBURA RESIDENT, MURIKIRIMANA JEAN PIERRE, SAYING: "The things we heard yesterday shocked. Some people tried to ruin Burundi, but God loves Burundi, we are still here." The unrest has plunged Burundi into its deepest crisis since an ethnically fueled civil war ended in 2005. So far activists say the violence has killed more than 20 people. The violence appears to have stopped for now, but with tensions running high there are fears that it could flare up again at any moment.
