The Tadmur Prison in Palmyra. Now empty -- it's a place filled with memories of violence and abuse. The prison is well known for it's harsh conditions under Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. It is also the site of a massacre that took place in June 1980 after a failed assassination attempt against President Hafez Al-Assad, the current president's father. Now, video released by Islamic State shows its fighters touring the prison grounds. Empty cells along a courtyard. Inside-- they pass by closed cells -- later opening a door showing a crypt like cell with a door scarred with scratches. Last week Islamic State took control of the central city including both the prison and famous ruins. Rights groups say the militants killed at least 200 people and took around 600 captive in the process. More memories to add to the grim history of a place marked by misery and fear, and Islamic State's ruthless quest for power.
