Officials say at least 27 people were wounded when one of the car bombs was detonated in a busy commercial street. It happened on Sunday in the city of Homs, which lies on a crucial supply route between the capital Damascus and the Mediterranean coast. State media showed images of mangled cars and destroyed shops at the scene. The second bomb exploded later on the southern edge of the city, wounding ten civilians, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency. No one claimed responsibility for the twin bombings in a city of around one million residents. The city was a center of the insurrection against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's rule and was a major opposition stronghold until it was retaken by the army last year. Four year's into Syria's war, only one neighborhood remains under opposition control.
