Hospital is new epicentre of MERS spread

A South Korean hospital suspends most of its services after being identified as the new epicentre of the spread of a deadly respiratory disease that has killed 14 people. Yiming Woo reports.

More than 70 cases of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome have been traced back to this hospital in Seoul. The Samsung Medical Center says it will suspend most of its services. (SOUNDBITE) (Korean) SAMSUNG MEDICAL CENTRE PRESIDENT, SONG JAE-HOON, SAYING: "We have decided to partially close down the hospital to focus on stopping infections of MERS. We will suspend all non-emergency surgeries and will not accept new patients." The hospital says an emergency ward attendant worked for days after developing symptoms. He's believed to have picked up the virus from an infected patient, who waited three days in different parts of the emergency ward. The deadly disease has killed 14 people so far. It was brought to South Korea by a businessman who returned from the Middle East last month.
