This Gay Pride Day march in New York was one of many across the U.S. that drew thousands onto the streets. This year the event was given extra sparkle by the Supreme Court ruling to legalise same-sex marriage across the country. Friday's ruling means that states can't ban such marriages because of the Constitution's guarantees of due process and equal protection. There've been similar scenes in other cities like San Francisco, Minneapolis and here in Chicago. This was Chicago's Pride Parade and included several politicians in the parade, along with Country singer Ty Herndon who came out as gay last year. The events marked the 46th anniversary of the police raid on the Stonewall Inn in New York which triggered protests widely seen as the birth of the U.S. gay rights movement.
