This is the aftermath of one of the largest attacks in Baghdad in a year. Here, at a crowded marketplace in Baghdad's Sadr City, a truck laden with explosives blew up at around 6 in the morning. At least 76 people were killed and more than 200 injured. Islamic State have claimed responsibility for the bombing in a statement online, saying they were targeting Shi'ite army and militia fighters. Rescuers now pull bodies from what remains of the market, wading through sheet metal that once formed the walls and roofs of vendors' stands. The attack is one of the worst since Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi took office last summer after Islamic State's takeover of the northern city of Mosul. The Baghdad government has been left dependent on Shi'ite militias, often assisted and funded by Iran. In recent days, Abadi has fixed his attention on a sweeping reform agenda, aimed at the largest overhaul of the political system since the end of U.S. military occupation.
