She was nineteen yead old... shot dead by Israeli soldiers at an Israeli checkpoint in the occupied West Bank city of Hebron. Hundreds of Palestinians came for Hadeel al-Hashlamun's funeral... her grieving father hoisted on the shoulders of mourners; all them angry over this latest fatality... in a time of rising tensions. The Israeli military says al-Hashlamun had tried to stab a soldier. But one eyewitness says the young woman was shot in cold blood. He says she couldn't speak Hebrew, and couldn't understand the soldiers as they approached her. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) EYEWITNESS WHO WAS AT SCENE WHEN WOMAN WAS KILLED, JAWAD ABU SHAMSIEH, SAYING: "The number of soldiers became six, aiming their weapons at her and screaming at her. I told them - 'give me a minute to speak to her', but they refused and one of the soldiers sniped and shot her left leg so she fell on the ground then he shot her right leg then seconds later he fired four bullets at her." The death of the young woman has increased the anger of Palestinians, who accuse Israeli forces of violations in one of Islam's holiest sites, the al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is warning of the risk of a new intifada -- or uprising -- IF violence at the mosque doesn't ease and IF peace talks with Israel don't resume. ...although for Hadeel al-Hashlamun any response will be too late.
