Trick or treaters are looking to pop culture events as they select their Halloween costumes. Alicia Powell reports.

When a Donald Trump look-alike rings the doorbell on Halloween night, he or she may solicit a piece of candy but the treat they really seek is recognition. Sarah Chamberlain of Yandy.com, which has 4,000 costume options available, says the site has a lot of fun creating both "ripped from the headlines" and traditional costumes. The most popular costume this year on the site is The Optical Illusion Dress, the subject of an online debate that went viral over its color. The hot seller is a compromise: half blue and black, half white and gold. The company is turning the killing of Zimbabwe's Cecil the Lion into a good cause. SOUNDBITE: Sarah Chamberlain, website strategist for Yandy.com, saying (English): "We're offering 20 percent of the proceeds, which is basically all of our profits, are going to a wildlife charity." Politicians are typically fair game and Yandy is having fun with its Donald Trump-like costume. SOUNDBITE: Sarah Chamberlain, website strategist for Yandy.com, saying (English): "This is our Donna T. Rumpshaker. We have the cute little booty shorts, and the little tie, and the little jacket, so that's the complete package. And then you can buy the wig and the hat separately." But there are still those who go the traditional route, which excites Nakia Cadet at Abracadabra in New York City. SOUNDBITE: Nakia Cadet, director of marketing and PR, Abracadabra, saying (English): "You know, what can we do, we can make like a geriatric Superman. We can make like a 'Golden Girl' version of Wonder Women. We can make like a bloody version of Cinderella. Things like that, that's what we are looking for, it lets our staff get our creative juices going." And Richard Lopez is the type of shopper the store likes. SOUNDBITE: Richard Lopez, customer, saying (English): "I'm going to be a wolf warrior. So like leather, and a wolf head dress and I'm going to do some cool makeup. It's going to be fun." Cadet says last year's favorite Elsa is being frozen out for more scary looks. SOUNDBITE: Nakia Cadet, director of marketing and PR, Abracadabra, saying (English): "Anything monster-like. So ghoulish girly costumes. Older girls are kind of pushing towards that. And then for the boys, Stormtroopers, Star Wars, superhero costumes will always be a big thing for boys." No matter the costume most trick or treaters are in it just for the fun. SOUNDBITE: Katharine Michie, customer, saying (English): "I mean it's the one time of year you can really go all out and people don't look at you crazy for wearing, you know, crazy costumes."
