ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Roughly 200 protesters loosely aligned with the anti-capitalist hackivisit group "Anonymous" marched from the Washington Monument to the White House on Thursday (November 5) for the group's annual "Million Mask March". The protest was one of numerous such demonstrators that organizers said they had planned across major cities to mark Guy Fawkes Day, including in London where thousands of protesters marched and some scuffled with police. Guy Fawkes was a 17th century English Catholic traitor whose arrest and gruesome execution is still celebrated across Britain every year by burning his effigy, and his white caricature mask has become the face of the leaderless "Anonymous" movement. The protest in Washington, in contrast, was much smaller than the demonstration in London and without incident. Demonstrators chanted "Whose house? Our House!" outside the gates of the White House and directed some of their messages and slogans directly to U.S. President Barack Obama. The Anonymous group has demonstrated in the past against what it says is worldwide government corruption. The protesters' broad demands outside the White House ranged from better healthcare and education to economic justice and legalization of marijuana.
