ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton on Friday (December 04) decried the reluctance of the U.S. Congress to pass new gun control measures in the wake of the shooting in San Bernardino, California that killed 14 people and wounded 21 others. Senate Democrats proposed a measure to expand background checks to those purchasing weapons at gun shows and through intrastate transactions on the internet. The measure also proposed closing a loophole which permitted individuals on "terror watch lists" to buy guns and explosives. The measure failed on nearly unanimous opposition by Republicans. Republicans said the government could mistakenly place innocent people on watch lists, denying them their constitutional right to purchase guns. The influential National Rifle Association has also advanced that argument. "If you are too dangerous to fly in America, you are too dangerous to buy a gun in America, in my opinion," Clinton said while campaigning in Sioux City, Iowa.
