ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Three U.S. lawmakers each representing one of the three Americans freed by Iran and who are now receiving medical attention in Germany briefed the media on Monday (January 18) on their release. Jason Rezaian, Saeed Abedini and Amir Hekmati were part of a prisoner swap between Iran and the U.S. and were flown from Iran via Switzerland to Germany, where they are now said to be undergoing medical checks. In exchange for their release and two other Americans, several Iranian-Americans held in U.S. prisons after being charged or convicted for sanctions violations were also released, their lawyers told Reuters on Sunday. The prisoner swap followed the lifting of most international sanctions on Iran under a deal U.S. President Barack Obama said cut off Tehran's path to a nuclear bomb.
