ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION). North Korea launched a long-range rocket on Sunday carrying what it has said is a satellite, South Korea's defense ministry said, in defiance of United Nations sanctions barring it from using ballistic missile technology. South Korean Yonhap News Television on Sunday relayed the announcement. "North Korea just launched its long-range missile. Despite international dissuasion, it proceeded with the launch at around 9:30 a.m. (0030GMT). The launch was carried out from a site in Tongchang-Ri, Cholsan county, North Pyongan province," a news reader said. North Korea had notified U.N. agencies that it planned to launch a rocket carrying an Earth observation satellite, triggering opposition from governments that see it as a long-range missile test. It initially gave a Feb. 8-25 time frame for the launch but changed that to Feb. 7-14 on Saturday.
