For the 25th year in a row the Labrador Retriever is America's top dog. It's all about the love, says American Kennel Club Vice President Gina Dinardo. Sometimes it just pays to be nice. (SOUNDBITE) (English) AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB VICE PRESIDENT GINA DINARDO, SAYING: "The Lab is so popular because of its temperament. It gets along great with families. It's easy to socialize. It's super smart. So a novice can successfully train it, and it comes in three fun colors. It's great for an active family. If you like to swim, it can swim. So it checks all the boxes when you're looking for a dog to add to your family." Other contenders in the top ten include German Shepherd -- who may be feeling a little slighted this year. Also competing for top dog -- The Golden Retriever -- another family favorite -- and the Bulldog -- which seems to be taking the competition lying down. And while the lab may score high on the home-front, it's never won best in show at the Westminster Kennel Club, but it's easy to suspect the lab would rather be at home anyway.
