It was a difficult weekend for residents of Donihue, Chile -- like for people in much of the rest of the central part of the country. Residents are scrambling to salvage their belongings from flooded homes -- after heavy rains well above average caused severe flooding in the region, killing at least two people and leaving ten others reported missing. On the outskirts of the capital Santiago, the rains triggered landslides that damaged water processing plants, creating a shortage of drinking water. Some three or four hundred people are left homeless and well over 400 others are trapped in their homes. President Michelle Bachelet met with emergency committees on Sunday, and schools in the capital were suspended Monday. The rains are expected to taper off in the coming days.
