ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump took a swipe at Ted Cruz on Thursday (April 28), a day after his Republican opponent announced he had chosen former businesswoman Carly Fiorina as his running-mate. Trump told a crowd at an amphitheatre in Costa Mesa, California that it was the first time in history that a man who is "mathematically dead" in the race for the White House race appointed someone as his vice-presidential candidate. "Now in fairness to Carly, she left at zero. OK she had zero, she had like one or zero. She had nothing going, and he put her. And he will get an award. Because honestly, I love to break records, for the first time in the history of American politics, a man who is totally mathematically dead -- he cannot win -- has appointed a vice president. First time in history. Lying Ted. He's one lying son of a gun. He's some liar, I'll tell 'ya. You know what he probably did with her? He probably said 'Carly, we're doing great, we're gonna win, let's go, be my vice president," Trump added. The New York billionaire easily defeated rivals John Kasich and Ted Cruz in all five states that held party nominating contests on Tuesday (April 26) -- Pennsylvania, Maryland, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Delaware. The race now pivots immediately to Indiana, which is shaping up to be Cruz's best, and perhaps last, chance to slow Trump's momentum toward capturing the Republican presidential nomination for the November 8 general election.
