Tens of thousands of labour union members have gathered in Seoul. They're protesting against the government's labour reform plans they say will threaten their job security. (SOUNDBITE) (Korean) FEDERATION OF KOREAN TRADE UNIONS (FKTU) SPOKESMAN, KIM JUN-YOUNG, SAYING: "Just like workers of previous generations fought for the right to the eight-hour day at the risk of their lives about 120 years ago, we are here to share the pain of workers in the Republic of Korea." In Hong Kong, thousands marched through the city centre, demanding better pay and working conditions. While in Cambodia, garment factory workers were on the streets. (SOUNDBITE) (Khmer) SL GARMENT FACTORY WORKER, SIEN SOPHAL SAYING: "My payment now is 140 U.S. dollars per month but it's better for us if we can get 207 dollars, so we can afford our daily spendings and save some money." Protesters in the Philippines say current President Benigno Aquino's government has done little to resolve work issues. They hope the election on May 9th will bring them better wages and help lift people out of poverty. Many of the rallies across Asia were accompanied by increased security to make sure protests don't get out of hand.
