Russian defense minister Sergei Shoigu sits down with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus. Russia's Defense Ministry said the two men discussed military-technical cooperation and the fight against insurgents. Russia's military intervention in Syria last September helped to turn the tide of Syria's civil war in Assad's favor after months of gains by rebels. The talks were announced as new videos posted on social media purported to show the aftermath of air strikes and barrel bombs in neighborhoods across Aleppo. Several roads and buildings appeared to be heavily damaged, as residents and civil defense workers sifted through rubble searching for survivors. A monitoring group said at least seven people died in rebel shelling of an Aleppo neighborhood held by the Kurdish YPG militia. The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also said more than 40 others were wounded in the attack, which targeted the district next to the only way in and out of rebel-held areas in northern Aleppo.
