Pyongyang has fired three ballistic missiles capable of striking its neighbour South Korea. The launches come days after Seoul and the United States announced the deployment of an anti-missile system in the South to counter threats from the North. It prompted Pyongyang to threaten a "physical response." Political watchers don't think the launches were tests to improve its missile capability -- they were likely meant as a show of force. South Korean Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-Ahn says it's a worrying development. (SOUNDBITE) (Korean) SOUTH KOREAN PRIME MINISTER, HWANG KYO-AHN, SAYING: "North Korea not only conducted its nuclear test but also has been continuously launching ballistic missiles this year, which was a rare phenomenon in the past. The threat to our national security has grown very quickly in a short period of time." North Korea has test-fired a series of ballistic missiles in recent months, in defiance of U.N. Security Council resolutions.
