At least seven people, including two attackers, were killed in a suicide attack on Somalia's Criminal Investigation Department headquarters on Sunday. Police said they killed two gunmen who stormed into the building after two car bombs exploded outside. The militant Islamist group al Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack. A spokesperson for the group said one of its suicide bombers started the attack by ramming a car bomb into the building's gate. Last Tuesday, 13 people were killed when the group attacked the gate of the African Union's main peacekeeper's base. Security officials had warned that the group might step up attacks to take advantage of any distractions caused by the August presidential election. Al Shabaab wants to impose its harsh form of Islam on the Horn of Africa nation, has also launched attacks in Kenya and Uganda.
