Pakistani shooters head to Rio

A male and female shooters help make up Pakistan's small but determined Olympic team. Julie Noce reports.

Two sharp shooters from Pakistan will are among the country's tiny team of athletes participating in the Rio Olympics opening this week. goo-lahm Ghulam Mustafa Bashir, a 29 year-old former Navy Marine... And min-all so-hale Minhal Sohail, a 21-year-old university student and daughter of a naval officer. None of the seven Pakistani participants actually qualified for the games... they were given wildcard entries and stand quote 'no chance' of winning medals, the president of the country's Olympic association said. But even if it's a shot in the dark, Minhal said the honour is not lost on her. (SOUNDBITE) (Urdu) 10-METRE RIFLE SHOOTER WHO WILL REPRESENT PAKISTAN IN RIO OLYMPICS, MINHAL SOHAIL, SAYING: "It's a great honour for me being a female who, for the the first time, a girl is going to represent Pakistan at this level after qualifying. There is a big burden on my shoulders, but I have prepared and practiced well for the event and I will try to give my best performance." Most Pakistani sportsmen and women say their future will remain bleak until the government takes some concrete steps to improve the structure of sport in the country. However, both sharp shooters praised the Pakistan Navy for encouraging them.
