ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION). Story: Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, speaking to a trade group in Florida, on Thursday (August 11), repeated his claim that his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton and U.S. President Barack Obama are what he called, "the founders" of the militant group, Islamic State, or ISIS. "I call President Obama and Hillary Clinton the founders of ISIS," he told the National Association of Home Builders. He said ISIS will name Clinton their "MVP" or most valuable player, in a reference to the award handed out by professional football officials. He said her only competition for the award from ISIS would be Obama. It is an assertion that he first made in a speech in Fort Lauderdale, Florida Wednesday night (August 10), and repeated in an interview on CNBC Thursday morning. In a statement, Clinton's campaign called the remarks a "false claim," and added that "once again, he's echoing the talking points of (Russian President Vladimir) Putin and our adversaries to attack American leaders and American interests, while failing to offer any serious plans to confront terrorism or make this country more secure." Trump, a New York businessman, is seeking to reset his campaign after a series of missteps that included a prolonged clash with the parents of fallen Muslim American Army Captain Humayun Khan and a comment about the Second Amendment that sparked a torrent of criticism on social media that he was effectively calling for Clinton's assassination.
