A Russian show of force in Crimea amidst rising tensions with Ukraine. Land and naval forces practice moving hardware and troops into this peninsula, which Moscow annexed from Ukraine in 2014. The exercises come as a fragile ceasefire in eastern Ukraine is threatened -- by the deadliest month of fighting in a year between Ukrainian troops and Moscow-backed seperatitsts, and by Russian anger over an alleged sabotage plot by Kiev. Russian President Vladimir Putin flew into Crimea Friday to chair a security meeting and talked of continuing diplomacy… … but on the ground, 2,500 Russian troops and hundreds of armored vehicles sent a different kind of message. There's been saber rattling from Ukraine, too. President Petro Poroshenko says he won't rule out martial law and a new wave of military mobilization if needed. Tensions are likely to rise further next month. That's when Russia plans to hold much larger war games in Crimea, as the region holds on to a shaky peace process.
