South Koreans watch closely as the first debate between U.S. presidential hopefuls Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump unfolds. Many feel the outcome of the November election will affect their country. (SOUNDBITE) (Korean) 60-YEAR-OLD SOUTH KOREAN RESIDENT, LEE YOUNG-HYE, SAYING: "North Korea is committing provocative actions and Trump is calling for unstable policies such as the withdrawal of U.S. forces in South Korea. I would like to support Hillary because she is friendly towards South Korea." Markets in Japan tipped in favour of Clinton, seen as the candidate of the status quo. In a sign that investors saw her as the debate winner, the U.S. dollar strengthened against the yen and early losses were recovered. Some of the Americans living in Hong Kong say they were looking to be entertained rather than persuaded. (SOUNDBITE) (English) NOVELIST, JASON WINCOUINAS, SAYING: "I was a little disappointed.
