The offensive on Mosul is now into its third day, but Islamic State claims the city it's occupied for more than two years, is still very much under its control. The militant group released video overnight purporting to show its soldiers patrolling peaceful city streets inside Mosul. Islamic State claims a force of 6,000 fighters here -- at the ready, to defend its last Iraqi bastion against the coalition assault. One fighter says, God "promised" them "hardships", but also, ultimate "victory". (SOUNDBITE) (English) UNIDENTIFIED ISLAMIC STATE MILITANT SAYING: "I swear, I swear United States you will be defeated in Iraq. You will leave once more humiliated and disgraced in defeat." The frontlines of the Mosul offensive, launched Monday, are still miles from the city itself. Like here, near the village of Bertella, to the east, where Kurdish Peshmerga forces are advancing. Already, they say they've captured some 20 villages from IS control. The U.N. expects one million people to flee Mosul, with the first big wave expected next week. Meaning the fighting will have reached the city by then... although the battle itself is expected to take weeks, if not months.
