The electoral college on Monday will cast their ballots to officially select the next president... And despite an online petition with more than 4 million signatures, Emails and phone calls from thousands of alarmed constituents... a chorus of Hollywood voices... And planned marches on state capitols - all pleading to block Donald Trump... the electors are still expected to rubber stamp Trump as the 45th President of the United States. It's normally a perfunctory vote - but in this year's bitter election ... where many, including the current President, called Trump 'unfit' for office ...and Hillary Clinton won the popular vote... - and amid allegations of Russian hacking intent to seal a Trump win... the spotlight is unusually hot for this year's 538 electors... 37 of whom have to vote AGAINST their state's outcomes for Trump to fall shy of the 270 votes needed for office. So far, just ONE has publicly pledged to do so. And 38 need to vote specifically for Clinton for her to be named president. Their votes won't be tallied until January 6th - just two weeks before inauguration day. If neither candidate reaches the requisite 270, the president is then chosen by the House of Representatives - currently controlled by Republicans.
