Last Syrian rebel Aleppo enclave squeezed

The Syrian army says its closing in on the last rebel enclave in eastern Aleppo. Jacob Greaves reports.

Closing in on Aleppo's last rebel enclave. An emboldened Syrian army is warning insurgents it's poised to enter their area. Telling them to speed up evacuations. It comes as advances are made off the battlefield. Ministers from Russia, Iran and Turkey adopting a so called Moscow declaration Tuesday (December 20), setting out principles for a peace deal. It also helps cement Russia's growing influence in the region, and strengthens ties with Tehran and Ankara, despite the murder on Monday (December 19) of Russia's ambassador in Turkey. Last week Russian President Vladimir Putin said he was working with his Turkish counterpart to organise fresh Syrian peace talks. Without the involvement of the U.S. or United Nations. Until then, the situation for Syria's civilians is bleak, Thousands are still trying to leave the bombed out, freezing ruins of eastern Aleppo. Turkey says 37,000 people have been evacuated from the besieged territory as part of a ceasefire deal to end fighting in the city. The red cross put their number much lower. A rebel official told Reuters on Monday only half of those who wanted to leave actually had.
