ROUGH CUT. NO REPORTER NARRATION. Two hundred and seventeen Indian fishermen released by Pakistan authorities entered India through the Wagah border crossing on Friday (January 6) in a solemn mood, after one of their colleagues died due to cardiac arrest two days before their release. The fishermen were arrested nearly a year ago when they strayed into Pakistan's territorial water. Their release comes amid a strain in ties between the two countries due militant attacks across their borders. On December 25 Pakistan had released 220 fishermen who were arrested under similar charges. The U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea states that fishermen who cross territorial waters can be warned and fined but not arrested.
