China turns up the heat on Trump over trade and Taiwan

Chinese state-media says it ''will take the U.S. on to the end'' in a trade war, as it tries to bar a Taiwanese delegation from attending Donald Trump's inauguration. Samantha Vadas reports.

China says its ready to go toe-to-toe with the U.S. on trade. State media turning up the heat on Donald Trump on Thursday (January 19) The influential Global Times calling his team arrogant, accusing them of underestimating China's ability to bite back if the incoming president sparks a trade war. And that's not the only issue blowing up between Beijing and Washington right now. "We again urge the the United States not to allow Taiwan to send a so-called delegation to attend the presidential inauguration," said China's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Hua Chunying. The ongoing spat over Taiwan - ramping up ahead of Friday's (January 20) ceremony just days after China threatened to quote 'take off the gloves', after a comment from Trump that the so-called 'One China' policy could be up for negotiation. Beijing recognises Taiwan as a renegade Chinese province - not a country. It did its best to block president Tsai Ing-wen from visiting the U.S. earlier this month, but failed. And it looks like it could be a similar scenario on Friday. Taiwan's foreign Ministry saying a delegation from Taipei will be there in Washington as President Trump is sworn in.
