ROUGH CUT. NO REPORTER NARRATION French President Francois Hollande joined his German counterpart Angela Merkel on Friday (January 27) to pay their respects at the site of last year's Berlin Christmas market attack. It's been just over a month since a Tunisian national who had sworn allegiance to Islamic State drove a truck into the crowded outdoor festivities, killing 12 people. Laying flowers at the quiet memorial, the leaders avoided making any public statements. But earlier that day told reporters the continent needed to remain united in the face of rising threats from outside and within, what they called populism and extremism. They also acknowledged growing economic and political challenges from Britain's decision to leave the European Union and the new U.S. President, Donald Trump.
