ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) U.S. President Donald Trump vowed again on Wednesday to intervene in Chicago to quell the city's violence. At a meeting with African American leaders at the White House, Trump said crime in America's third-largest city is "totally out of control." The comments came after a pastor at the meeting told Trump that he was recently contacted by "some of the top gang thugs in Chicago," who told the pastor they respect Trump and believe in what he's doing. Trump responded by saying, "we're gonna have to do something about Chicago because what's happening in Chicago should not be happening in this country." Chicago, with a population of 2.7 million, posted more shootings and homicides last year than any other U.S. city, according to FBI and Chicago police data, and its murder clearance rate, a measure of solved and closed cases, is one of the country's lowest.
