Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern and Shailene Woodley hit the red carpet for the premiere of new HBO limited series, Big Little Lies. Kidman and Witherspoon not only star in the show, but also served as executive producers. (SOUNDBITE) (English) EXECUTIVE PRODUCER AND ACTRESS, REESE WITHERSPOON, SAYING: "I think it's powerful, you know, when you actually connect with women and reflect back to them their lives and they see themselves on film. I think they have a bigger connection to the material, so I'm excited for women to see this and hopefully identify which character they most like or see themselves in this show." (SOUNDBITE) (English) EXECUTIVE PRODUCER AND ACTRESS , NICOLE KIDMAN, SAYING: "I'm committed to supporting female directors, actresses, young actors coming up. It's a lovely place in the world right now to be able to throw whatever power, or whatever, whatever support I can be behind that." That's a message that another of the cast, Laura Dern, is very much on board with. (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTRESS, LAURA DERN, SAYING: "Even more meaningful to be reminded that there are power in numbers and power in female numbers and to celebrate each other and to use our voices to come together to tell stories, to get stories out there. You know, this is a beautiful time to be doing that." As well as the issue of female empowerment, Shailene Woodley remains as committed as ever to another cause - the Dakota pipeline. (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTRESS, SHAILENE WOODLEY, SAYING: "I feel the same way I felt about it a year ago exactly when I first learned about it. If we don't begin to honor the sovereignty of Native Americans in this country we cannot call ourselves a country that's founded on, we can't call ourselves free , we can't call ourselves justified and we can't absolutely, can't call ourselves a country that prides itself on taking care of its citizens." The seven-episode limited drama series debuts on HBO on February 19.
