More than three years after the Kapoor family settled here in Koenigstein, Germany, they're facing deportation to their native Afghanistan. And as Hindus in a Muslim-majority country, matriarch Krishna say they're especially afraid. (SOUNDBITE) (Hindu) MIGRANT FROM AFGHANISTAN, KRISHNA KAPOOR, SAYING: --ACCORDING TO TRANSLATION BY HER SON-- "My children cannot study. Women cannot go outside. Everyone is in fear. And there is no space for a different religion. People are scared because of their religion." Their deportation comes as authorities in Berlin step up efforts to deport failed asylum seekers... efforts that Koenigstein Mayor Leonhard Helm hopes to reverse... at least for the Kapoors, who Helm says have integrated well into the town. (SOUNDBITE) (German) MAYOR OF KOENIGSTEIN, LEONHARD HELM, SAYING: "Nobody checked with us how well she had integrated, how well her children had integrated. How they all have become part of our society. Nobody cares about that. And that angers me." Helm says the family has been welcomed with open arms, calling them a positive example of refugees. (SOUNDBITE) (German) MAYOR OF KOENIGSTEIN, LEONHARD HELM, SAYING: "And if we deport them, without even checking what has happened, that is wrong." The family has filed a complaint against the deportation... and hopes that with their mayors help, they'll be able to stay in Germany for good.
