ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: Ancient mummies from Egypt and Peru will be on display at the American Museum of Natural History from March 20 to Jan. 7, 2018. On Thursday (March 16), the media previewed the "Mummies" exhibit, which is on tour from The Field Museum collection in Chicago. Many of the mummies haven't been seen since the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. The collection features 18 individuals and their preserved remains with an interactive display that lets visitors virtually "unwrap" a mummy and explore the insides of centuries-old mummies. Curator David Thomas of "Mummies" says the exhibit is groundbreaking because it shows how science and technology can shed light on the historical and cultural record of society.
