"This is what democracy looks like." Thousands of protesters marching across the U.S. on Tax Day to demand that President Donald Trump release his tax returns. Here in Chicago, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky called for transparency from the White House. (SOUNDBITE) (English) REP. JAN SCHAKOWSKY, ILLINOIS DEMOCRAT, SAYING: "We need to know, as we approach the deadline for filing taxes how much Trump actually pays." Trump has steadfastly refused to release his tax returns, citing an ongoing audit by the Internal Revenue Service. The IRS has said that Trump can release his tax returns even while under audit. The marches coincided with the traditional April 15 deadline for U.S. federal tax returns, though the filing date was pushed backed two days this year. The protests also touched down near the so-called Winter White House. Hundreds marched in Palm Beach near Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort. There were no reports of violence or arrests, differing greatly from clashes between Trump supporters and opponents that erupted at a rally in Berkeley, California. Protesters there hurled objects and threw fists, as nine people were arrested.
