ROUGH CUT. NO REPORTER NARRATION. The cast and crew of "American Gods", a new television series based on the Hugo and Nebula Award-winning fantasy novel by author Neil Gaiman, all agreed that adapting the iconic novel into good television was important because the themes the original books touches on, back in 2001, are still topical and important today. The story follows a brewing war between old gods with strong mythological roots and new gods that reflect modern obsessions such as media and technology. This war between old and new, told within the landscape of the United States, allows the new show to touch on themes such as immigration and civil rights, according to Gaiman. "American Gods" premiers on the cable network Starz on April 30th.
