ROUGH CUT. NO REPORTER NARRATION. The traditional May Day Stilton Cheese Rolling world championships taking place in Stilton, UK on Monday (May 1). Teams of four competing in the annual event, where a special wooden cheese is rolled along a road in Stilton, famous as the home of the namesake cheese. There were three separate categories for juniors, men and women to take part, with hundreds of spectators looking on. 'Anna's Girls' came out winners in the female competitors and defending champions 'The Talbot Royal Rollers' won in the men's event. According to the official website for the race, no-one is quite sure when the tradition first began but by the mid-20th century local landlords had seen a drop in trade and so one revived the cheese rolling competition. The Stilton race is not linked to another traditional cheese rolling race which takes place on Cooper's Hill in Gloucestershire and sees scores of competitors race downhill in pursuit of a slab of cheese.
