ROUGH CUT. NO REPORTER NARRATION. Outgoing French President Francois Hollande pays a farewell visit to Germany and Chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday (May 8), one day after his successor Emmanuel Macron was elected France's new leader. Merkel received Hollande for what is believed to be a dinner at the chancellor's office. No news conference or statements are planned after their encounter. Just over two years ago, in March 2015, the leaders of Germany and France announced plans to work closer together on economic and security issues after years of strain. They say the tragedies of the Charlie Hebdo killings and air crash in the French Alps has brought them closer. Germans will elect a new parliament on September 24 and Merkel's conservative Christian Democrats have opened a seven-point lead over the centre-left Social Democrats, according to an Emnid institute survey released on April 30.
