Riot police locking down dueling political rallies in Portland Sunday (June 4). Setting off tear gas and flashbangs to rein in rowdy demonstrators after protests by supporters and opponents Donald Trump in the wake of a racially-charged killing that shocked the city. Police arrested 14 people throughout the day, and showed photos on Twitter of weapons seized from demonstrators, from a hunting knife and brass knuckles to a slingshot. Hundreds turned up for the Trump Free Speech Rally outside City Hall a week after a man on a racist tirade stabbed three people on a local train. Since then, tension's been running high. (SOUNDBITE) (English) UNIDENTIFIED PRO-TRUMP DEMONSTRATOR, SAYING : "This group is very peaceful, we're just freedom-loving Americans. And we're not associated with the people like we heard on the MAX train, like a couple weeks ago, we're not associated with that guy. that guy's a lunatic, he's a criminal. You should never go out and kill someone like that." Outnumbering the pro-Trump rally, a much larger group of counter-protesters and onlookers filled up the surrounding park. Left wing activists seizing on the stabbings as a rallying cry. Later in the day they tangled with police after being ordered off the park. Portland police say they've been training for weeks in anticipation of the protests. No injuries have been reported.
