'He wasn't evil': Friend of suspected congressional shooter

An acquaintance of James Hodgkinson, the suspected gunman who opened fire on Republican lawmakers at a baseball practice, says the Illinois man was a 'happy, go-lucky' who was 'tired of some of the politics.' Linda So reports.

66-year-old James Hodgkinson of Belleville, Illinois is the suspected gunman who opened fire on Republican lawmakers who were practicing near Washington Wednesday morning, for a charity baseball game. An acquaintance describing him as a happy, go-lucky guy. SOUNDBITE: UNIDENTIFIED ACQUAINTANCE, SAYING: "I just want to let people know that he wasn't evil, that he was, I guess, tired of some of the politics that are going on." Hodgkinson was reportedly a supporter of Bernie Sanders and volunteered for his presidential campaign. The Vermont senator condemning the attack on the Senate floor. SOUNDBITE: VERMONT SENATOR BERNIE SANDERS, SAYING: "I am sickened by this despicable act. Let me be as clear as I can be -- violence of any kind is unacceptable in our society and I condemn this action in the strongest possible terms." On his Facebook page, he also had several anti-Trump postings including one on March 22 that reads quote, "Trump is a Traitor. Trump Has Destroyed Our Democracy. It's Time to Destroy Trump & Co." Hodgkinson's wife reportedly said her husband, the former owner of a home inspection business, had been living in Alexandria, Virginia for the past two months and was expected to return to Illinois in the coming days.
