French president Emmanuel Macron's Republic on the Move party wins a large majority in parliament, according to Interior Ministry data. Jillian Kitchener reports.

President Emmanuel Macron winning a commanding majority in France's parliamentary election, Sunday… and securing a powerful mandate to push through his pro-business reforms. Interim President of Macron's Republic on the Move Party, Catherine Barbaroux, said the National Assembly will be strengthened by diversity. Macron's triumph brings a shift in France's political landscape, sweeping aside the mainstream parties that had once alternated in power. Jean-Christophe Cambadelis announced he was stepping down as Socialist Party leader, saying the party would have to rebuild itself from the top down. (SOUNDBITE) (French) FRENCH SOCIALIST PARTY LEADER, JEAN-CHRISTOPHE CAMBADELIS, SAYING: "Emmanuel Macron's triumph is unquestionable. The left's defeat is unavoidable, the rout of the Socialist Party is irrevocable." French far-right leader Marine Le Pen telling supporters on Sunday her party had won at least six seats in parliament, including her own. Despite a strong platform for Macron, a low voter turnout underlines that he may yet have to tread carefully with French reforms.
