ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: Taipei Zoo's popular young panda Yuan Zai and her fans celebrated her fourth birthday on Thursday (July 6) with a giant green fruit cake prepared by zoo employees for the occasion. Panda enthusiasts from throughout Asia came to see the first giant panda to be born in Taiwan wolf down her special cake, but the star of the day just took a few nibbles. She has shown little appetite lately as it is mating season and the young lady has other things on her mind, explained zoo officials. Yuan Zai was born on July 6, 2013, to parents Tuan Tuan and Yuan Yuan, who were given to Taiwan by China in 2008 when former president Ma Ying-jeou's administration accepted the pandas as part of an exchange program. The previous independence-leaning government had rejected the pandas in 2005, when the idea was first brought up by China.
