My Muslim faith helped my success, says India's Oscar-winning Rahman

Oscar and Grammy-Award winning Indian composer A R Rahman, who is celebrating 25 years in the music industry, attributes some of his success to Sufi Islam. Serena Chaudhry reports.

He's known as the 'Mozart of Madras'. Oscar-winning Indian composer A R Rahman is celebrating 25 years in the music industry. But the musician, who has over 160 film soundtracks to his name, says there's still plenty more to come. (SOUNDBITE) (English) Indian Musician And Composer, A R Rahman, Saying: "I think this year is going to be very special because everybody is celebrating my 25 years, even though I feel very young and I still have a lot to do." Rahman converted to Islam in his twenties and credits his religious beliefs for some of his success. The 50-year-old artist follows Sufism, a non-violent form of Islam focused on poetry and spirituality. (SOUNDBITE) (English) Indian Musician And Composer, A R Rahman, Saying: "Whomever comes, they just look at me and find me living a simple life. It holds me, makes me stable in all kinds of turmoil, whether good or bad, with fame or humiliation. So I'm the same." Rahman is currently in London and will be performing at the SSE Arena in London on Saturday.
