Four villages evacuated as wildfires rage in Portugal

Four villages have been evacuated in central Portugal as forest fires continue to blaze for a third day. Rough cut (no reporter narration).

ROUGH CUT. NO REPORTER NARRATION. A fire continued to burn in the region of Abrantes, central Portugal, on Friday (August 11) as 683 firefighters, 216 fire trucks and ten firefighting planes battled the blaze, Portuguese Civil Protection said on its website. The fire broke out on Wednesday (August 9), local media reported. As a precautionary measure, four villages were forced to evacuate, Abrantes Mayor Maria do Céu Albuquerque was quoted as saying in local media. Members of Spain's Military Emergency Unit (UME) were deployed to provide support to the Portuguese Emergency services with firefighting planes.
